Memo from the desk of:
BOBBY STARR
Before I can get into business matters, I have to say I had so much fun at the November 4th show! It had been over 6 years since Ramblin Rich and Jimmy Jannetty had the opportunity to work together, not to mention almost 8 years since I have had a chance to sit down together with the duo and do some catching up…
Jaws dropped in the locker room as Jannetty walked in on that Sunday evening. People like Sandman and Danny Doring were shaking their heads, as they haven't seen Jannetty since the days of Extreme Championship Wrestling in Philadelphia when it was headed by Todd Gordon.
So where does this amazing return to tag team competition begin? How about with a phone call I got from Ramblin' Rich a few weeks back, after he had heard that I had been promoted by Mrs. McDevitt and was looking for a new tag team. Rich told me that he was tired of the way MCW officials were treating him after Earl "The Pearl" disappeared. Rich couldn't believe that after doing a few hundred shows together Earl wouldn't have at least called him and let him know he couldn't make an event here or there due to his new baby. But not Earl, he left Rich high and dry by not only no- showing several events, but also not calling management and letting them know in advance he wouldn't be there. Ramblin Rich was left holding the bag and facing some two on one matches as well as the wrath of MCW agents and bookers who had put together tag team matches for the once loved Holy Rollers. Imagine how Rich felt after busting his ass getting the Holy Rollers new outfits and bookings outside of MCW in an attempt to further their careers (not to mention their bank accounts).
Rich has told me that he got tired of all the bs and started going through his phone book looking for Earl's replacement and thats when he came across his old partner's phone number.
After explaining to Jimmy that Kimberley McDevitt and I were looking for a new tag team to create havoc in MCW - not to mention start a new movement and open eyes in the office like never before - Jimmy was happy to "reunite the band". Their opportunity came when Mrs. McDevitt called me and told me about the open contract that Buck Child and Doyle had for the November show. It was a no-brainer, we would get to make our return to the ring and take on Buck Child who is one of Dan McDevitt's stooges. I signed off on the deal and the match was set, which started all of the idiots living in their mom's basements writing on the message board trying to guess who the tag team would be. Some of these idiots were even foolish to believe that it would be Earl returning. Well the real wrestling fans that have been around a while, would remember that myself and Earl had quite a few matches with each other. In fact I made Earl "The Pearl". When I met him he was nothing but a dancing fool that was getting destroyed nightly in the MEWF, now hes just a fool! At the end of 2006, Earl was a shadow of his former self. I couldn't stand for all of the goo goo, ga ga stuff that Earl was spewing backstage, about a baby that on the way. God he was making me sick!
Rich and Jimmy have held a crazy amount of championships between the two of them, all over the east coast. Both tag team and singles titles for promotions from NY all the way to Florida , and now the three of us have focused on the MCW tag team championship and plan to have those belts in the very near future. Kimberley McDevitt has told me there are a few other matches we have to have, but she has assured me there would be a championship match in early 2008.
As for now Rich, Jimmy, and myself will be appearing in WVA and PA in the next few weeks, and meeting with a bunch of friends to see who will come and join us in MCW. Last weekend it was "The Walking Riot" in PA and then it was "Too Cold" in Atlanta but wow what a ride its been since the 4th, and what a ride its going to be in 2008.
I want the MCW fans to remember one thing, Rich, Jannetty, and myself have a tremendous amount of friends in this business. From the old MEWF, to the WWE, to WCW and even ECW; friends consisting of anyone from Buff Bagwell to Hugh Morris and from X Pac to (believe it or not) Scott Hall. Between the three of us we know pretty much everyone and have worked with most of them at one time or another. Just keep your eyes on us, because starting on December 26 at the Michaels 8th Avenue its time for the Headliners to finish what was started years ago.
Until next time - Cheers!
Bobby Starr
