CRUISERWEIGHT CHAOS
Controversy surrounds the MCW Cruiserweight Championship
Derek Frazier vs. Josh Daniels.
It was one of the most anticipated matches for Holiday Homecoming. However, Derek Frazier would suffer a knee injury early in the match, which would lead to his submission loss to Josh Daniels.
For Frazier, it was the worse case of irony in wrestling history. Earlier in the match, Frazier faked a knee injury, in order to gain an advantage later on, which he did, as he jumped back in the ring to attack Daniels. Several minutes later, the real injury occurred. Backstage, Frazier was unhappy for many reasons. One, his 9-month title reign was over. Two, he had lost to Josh Daniels again. Three, he had suffered an injury and may take him out of the game for a while. But fourth, and most important to him, he was upset because he failed to deliver a 5-star match to the near-capacity crowd at Michael’s 8th Avenue.
“Whether the fans boo me, or cheer me, I always deliver a great match. At Holiday Homecoming, I failed to do that. I failed the fans, and I failed myself. But, I make this promise. When I come back, and I will be back very soon. But when I come back, I will deliver the performance of a lifetime. Daniels is a great wrestler, and will be a great champion someday. But I will get my title back, and prove to the fans, that I am the best pound-for-pound wrestler in MCW.”
Should doctors medically clear Derek Frazier, he will receive his rematch at MCW Anniversary ’08, against new Cruiserweight Champion Josh Daniels. However, if the doctors fail to give him clearance, there are many wrestlers waiting to take Frazier’s place. From MCW veterans like BLKOUT’s Ruckus & Sabian, to newcomers like Devon Moore. Moore didn’t wait to make his intentions known, attacking the new champion just minutes after winning the title.
“There’s no hatred or rivalry between me and Josh,” says Moore. “Had Frazier won the match, I would have dropkicked him too. I was just trying to make a statement. I was letting everybody know that Devon Moore is here. And that everyone in the Cruiserweight division needs to take notice. I am on a quest to become the best. And to be the best, you must be the champ. And that is my goal.”
Will doctors clear Frazier, so that he can get a rematch for the title? And if not, who will MCW decide will get the title match in his place? An announcement will be made within the next few weeks.
