 MCW News Update 06/07/06 OFFICIAL MARYLAND CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING PRESS RELEASE
www.marylandwrestling.com On Sunday night, July 9th, 2006, Maryland Championship Wrestling presents The Shane Shamrock Memorial Cup VI at the MCW Arena in Dundalk, MD. This unique 11-man tournament will feature five first-round matches, where the winners will advance to the 6-man elimination finale. Traditionally, the defending Cup winner returns to the finale to defend the Cup. However, due to the retirement of the previous winner CHRISTIAN YORK, MCW announced that the winner of the Cruiserweight Championship 4-way (that took place this past February at RESURRECTION), would also go to the Shamrock Cup as the defender of the Cup. This year, that man, who has advanced to the 6-man finale, is DEREK FRAZIER. The tournament will feature these 10 wrestlers competing for the five open spots in the finale: Reigning MCW Cruiserweight Champion and former TNA X-Division Champion CHRIS SABIN Former MCW Cruiserweight Champion & Shamrock Cup II Winner Former TNA X-Division Champion & leader of Team Canada Former MCW Tag Team Champion & 1/2 of The Holy Rollers Top MCW & independent superstar Gulf South Wrestling star Former ECW World Champion Current TNA superstar Current TNA superstar and Former CZW Champion Already announced for the Shamrock Cup VI Qualifiers are RUCKUS vs. SONJAY DUTT, PETEY WILLIAMS vs. JOSH DANIELS, and ALEX SHELLEY vs. CHRIS SABIN.
Now, MCW announces the final qualifying matches for July 9th: SCOTT ANTHONY vs. QENAAN CREED and JERRY LYNN vs. RAMBLIN RICH
Scott Anthony will make his MCW debut against the only man in this tournament who has won the Shamrock Cup before, Qenaan Creed. Anthony is currently 1/2 of the NWA Southern Tag Team Champions (with Scott Storm). Anthony is also a member of Paul Bearer's Gulf South Wrestling in Alabama. Anthony has a tough draw in Qenaan Creed, a former MCW Cruiserweight Champion. Creed won this event in 2000 and is looking to become the 2nd man to win this event twice. Ramblin Rich, 1/2 of the former MCW Tag Team Champions The Holy Rollers (with partner Earl The Pearl) returns to the Shamrock Cup, after competing in the first Cup in 1999. A 16-year veteran, Rich has been all over the world, wrestling many superstars including Barry Windham & Shawn Michaels. Rich will need to bring all of that experience to the ring, when he faces Jerry Lynn, in the qualifying round of SHAMROCK VI. Jerry Lynn, an 18-year veteran, has also competed all over. Starting in the AWA in 1988, Lynn has competed in Global (GWF), WCW, ECW, WWE, ROH, & TNA, wrestling superstars like Chris Benoit, Dean Malenko, Eddie Guerrero, and Chris Jericho. Lynn's championship history includes WWE Light Heavyweight Championship, TNA X-Division Championship (twice), NWA World Tag Team Championship (twice), and ECW World Heavyweight Championship (defeating Justin Credible to win the title on October 1, 2000). Lynn is tournament-tested as well, having won the 2004 World X Cup Winner (with Chris Sabin, Christopher Daniels, and Elix Skipper as Team USA).
Also, Commissioner TARA has announced a special six-man tag team match for July 9th. It will be former 5-time MCW Champion BRUISER, GENESIS, & former MCW Tag Champ DANNY JAXX vs. current MCW Heavyweight Champion JULIO DINERO, and current MCW Tag Team Champions JASON STATIC & SCOTT FOWLER.
